Enquirer Owner Buys Weider American Media Inc. bought Woodland Hills-based Weider Publications, owner of Shape and Men’s Fitness magazines, for $350 million. In an auction for the Woodland Hills publishing company, American Media’s offer was the highest, with the other offers closer to $300 million. Other bidders that submitted offers included William Reilly, the chief executive of Aurelian Communications LLC; Cypress Capital; Veronis, Suhler Stevenson & Associates; and Warburg Pincus. Florida-based American Media will get seven magazines in the transaction expected to close in the first quarter of 2003. The purchase does not include Weider Nutrition International Inc., a publicly traded vitamin and nutritional supplement business.
