Valley Forum: A Sports Stadium for the Valley?

Valley Forum: A Sports Stadium for the Valley? October is a sports fan’s dream. The baseball league championships will quickly lead to the World Series, the NFL and college football seasons are in full swing, the National Hockey League opened play last week and the Lakers and Clippers are preparing for their season openers. And if you live in the San Fernando Valley, you can what? Watch it all on television. So the San Fernando Valley Business Journal asks: If the Valley were to attract its own major league sports team, what should it be and where should it play its games? Carol Wieser Director of Human Resources Pacific Coast Cabling Chatsworth Los Angeles has the Dodgers highly recognized and successful. However, the Rams are gone and we need a football team. We could call them the San Fernando Quakes. Fred Gaines Managing Partner Gaines & Stacey LLP Encino I’d love to see a first-class arena for basketball, hockey and concerts. Maybe not as large as Staples, but 10,000 or so seats for CSUN basketball, minor league hockey, indoor soccer, conventions and family shows. Arthur Sweet President A & E; Development Company Inc. Sherman Oaks Considering the number of Hispanics that reside in the northeast San Fernando Valley, I think that a soccer team would serve the community best. There is space available around the Hansen Dam area and the Sepulveda Flood Basin, which is more centrally located. Either of those two areas would be ideal. Vic Viereck CPA and candidate for Valley city council North Hollywood I would welcome the opportunity for the public to have any kind of sports team they desire, as long as there is no public subsidy and the owners pay their own way. Subject to that provision and public input, I would want plans expedited.
