United Online Reports Earnings Increase on Record Sales

Woodland Hills-based United Online reported an increase in net income for the fourth quarter of 2004, claiming $80.2 million, or $1.26 per share, versus $24.4 million or $0.35 a share, for the year-ago quarter. These results included a tax benefit of $68.6 million, or $1.07 per share in the quarter and $12.3 million, or $0.18 per share, in the prior-year quarter related to the recognition of a portion of the company’s deferred tax assets. Excluding these benefits, net income for the quarter was $11.6 million, or $0.18 per share, versus $12.1 million, or $0.18 per share, for the year-ago quarter. Additionally, United Online reported record sales of $119.6 million, up 23 percent from the $96.9 million in revenues they reported in the fourth quarter of 2003.
