VICA’s Board of Directors voted to support Los Angeles City Councilmember Wendy Greuel’s plan to sell advertising space on city vehicles to provide more money to hire new police officers. “VICA applauds this entrepreneurial approach to help solve the city’s public safety crisis — without further taxing the city’s businesses and residents,” said George Stavaris, co-chair of the Local Issues Committee. “VICA is eager to see this proposal move forward, and is willing to partner with city officials to identify and support other alternative revenue sources to increase our currently understaffed police department.” Greuel’s proposal would exclude ads promoting tobacco and alcohol, and the advertiser would be responsible for enforcing decency guidelines.
