CSUN Conference to Take Look at Valley Real Estate

Cal State Northridge’s Center for Real Estate will sponsor its second annual San Fernando Valley Real Estate Outlook on Tuesday, March 8, at the Hilton Hotel in Universal City Donald Bleich, director of the Center for Real Estate said that last year, 350 to 400 people attended the conference, and he expects a similar turnout this year. Bleich said the staff at the Center decided to host the program last year to address the Valley market in particular, which had not been addressed exclusively in the past. “There are other organizations doing their own conferences, but there weren’t any that focused on the San Fernando Valley,” Bleich said. The overwhelmingly positive response to last year’s conference convinced Bleich and the rest of the staff at the center that they should continue with their plan to make the conference an annual event. “We handed out evaluation forms, and the only negative response we got was someone complaining about the eggs for breakfast,” Bleich said. This year, the Center has added a session spotlighting single family homes, and another on apartments as investment opportunities. “Those areas have been very active in the last few years, a number of people expressed interest in them and I certainly think the public is more interested in them,” Bleich said. Bleich will also be heading a new session on affordable housing this year, and more than 30 real estate experts will present in sessions like “Financing the Future,” “The Changing Face of Retail,” and “Office and Industrial Properties in 2015.” Joel Kotkin, an author and authority on global, economic, political and social trends, will deliver this year’s keynote address. Kotkin is the author of “The City: A Global History,” and a contributing editor for the Los Angeles Times as well as Senior Research Fellow at Baruch College. He is currently working on a study on the economic future of Los Angeles. Hessam Nadji, managing director of research services for Marcus and Millichap, will also give a special presentation. Nadji oversees economic and real estate information tracking, analysis and publications. His division produces research reports on 40 local markets and annual national reports for apartment, retail and office properties. The conference will take place from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. on March 8, with a networking session scheduled from 11:40 a.m. to 1 p.m. Registration costs $95 or $110 at the door.
