Airport Takes Top VICA Honors

The Bob Hope Airport took the Robert E. Gibson Award for Excellence at the fifth annual Valley Industry and Commerce Association “Excellence in Business Advocacy Awards” early this month. The award, along with five others was presented in front of more than 350 business and civic leaders gathered at the Universal Sheraton Hotel on Thursday, June 9. Martin M. Cooper, chairman of VICA, said that the Burbank airport, which has been serving the San Fernando Valley, San Gabriel Valley and the greater Los Angeles area for more than 75 years, was honored for being among the most successful, convenient and passenger-friendly airports in the country. “They personify what the award is given for, which is community support,” said Cooper. “They have a lot of public to communicate with, the flying public, the various airlines and the neighbors who worry about safety.” Winners of the other business awards were: Robert Rodine of the Polaris Group in Sherman Oaks, for outstanding volunteer advocate; Child Care Resource Center in Van Nuys, for not-for-profit organization; West Coast Environmental and Engineering in Ventura, in the small business category; the Los Angeles Daily News in Woodland Hill, in the large business category; and Habitat for Humanity in Pacoima, for outstanding new VICA company.
