Greuel Calls on Sacramento to Restore Transportation Funding

Councilwoman Wendy Greuel is prodding sate leaders to restore funding of voter-approved Proposition 42, which would deliver $16.6 million in additional revenue for Los Angeles traffic projects if full funding is restored in the 2006 budget. Proposition 42 was passed by voters in 2002, it amended the California Constitution to require the sales tax on gasoline to be used annually for state and local transportation projects. In recent years, state budgets have diverted some of the money into the General Fund, however. “Restoring voter-approved transportation funding will help Los Angeles create a transportation system to get the city moving again. Los Angeles deserves to have their transportation tax dollars spent in Los Angeles,” Greuel said.
