CSUN Conference on Community Issues Scheduled

The environment, early childhood issues, and challenges facing youth will be among the topics discussed in a series of workshops between government, education and community agencies and faculty and students at California State University at Northridge. “Campus and Community Connections: Conversations for Change” takes place May 3 at the CSN Student Union. The workshops will help community leaders establish collaborations with CSUN so they can capitalize on the talents and energies of the students to benefit their agencies. Students are available as volunteers, interns or service-learners who receive academic credit for their community service work, said Maureen Rubin, director of the school’s Center for Community Service-Learning. “Students are and can be a wonderful resource to address many local issues and problems,” Rubin said. “But to start the process, faculty, students and community members must meet, discuss mutual needs and plan future activities.” Among the speakers at the conference will be Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Daniel “Zeke” Ziedler, a former CSUN student government president, and actor and activist Angie Ruiz.
