Leading national health insurer, WellPoint Inc. more than tripled its net income in the fourth quarter and membership growth as a result of Anthem Inc. acquiring WellPoint Health Networks Inc. in 2004. Net income totaled $652 million for the fourth quarter ending December 31, 2005. In 2004, net income for the fourth quarter was $184.5 million. WellPoint’s membership totaled about 33.9 million members at the end of 2005, an increase from 27.8 million members in 2004.
