Optical Communications Acquires GigaComm

Optical Communications Products, Inc. sealed a $20 million acquisition of a Taiwanese firm that does business extensively in Japan, the company announced. The acquisition of GigaComm Corp. falls into the Woodland Hills-based OCP, Inc. strategy to focus efforts on the Asian market and extend the company globally. OCP, Inc. designs, manufactures and sells subsystems and modules enabling high-speed communication of voice and data traffic over public and private fiber optic networks. Privately-held GigaComm Corp. supplies passive optical network fiber-to-the-home components and has the majority market share in Japan, the fifth-largest fiber-to-the-home market in the world. Acquiring GigaComm gives OCP, Inc. instant access to the Asian market and positions the company to advantage of the emerging gigabit passive optical network markets in North America and Europe, said OCP Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Muoi V. Tran. “The acquisition of GigaComm also gives us an enhanced ability to increase capacity through its integrated manufacturing facility, an important second and competitive source of lasers, and a talented pool of engineers and management in Asia,” Tran said. The purchase of GigaComm is expected to increase OCP, Inc. revenues by 25 percent, the company said.
