Alliance Partners on Trade Website

The Economic Alliance of the San Fernando Valley has partnered with the Monterey Bay International Trade Office on a website to assist companies throughout the state looking to expand to overseas markets. GlobalCalifornia.com is seen as filling the void left by the closure in 2003 of the California Technology, Trade and Commerce Agency. “The information is out there but nothing is tying it together,” said Tony Livoti, president of the Santa Cruz-based Monterey Bay International Trade Office. “A foreign buyer doesn’t know where to go.” With Monterey Bay as representative from the northern part of the state, the organization wanted to get southern representation as well and turned to the Economic Alliance. “There are a lot of people who go on the Internet and mine for contacts,” Alliance President Bruce Ackerman said. “We want a port of entry for them to see the Alliance, the Valley and the state of California to make those contacts.” GlobalCalifornia.com will include access to all other websites with information on trade promotion services, financing, marketing and logistics for firms wanting to do business overseas. This is not the first time the Economic Alliance has staked an online presence to boost the Valley as a place to do business. In 2002, the Economic Alliance established a relationship with alibaba.com, an online marketplace to buy and sell merchandise and find resources on international trade.
