NBC Pitches Parking Plan

NBC Universal will pave over a landscaped Los Angeles Water and Power easement in a proposal to meet the number of parking spaces required in a development agreement with the City of Burbank. By paving the landscaped area and re-striping existing parking lots, NBC will have 2,000 spaces, more than what is needed in the agreement, according to a staff report from the Burbank Community Development Department. With the sale last year of its 9-acre Catalina site across the street from the NBC studios, the company lost about 350 parking spaces used by employees, visitors, and studio audiences. NBC vacated the temporary buildings that had been on the site and that have since been torn down by developer M. David Paul, the buyer of the property. NBC, however, continues to use the land for 165 parking spaces. Under a two-phase plan under review by the city, NBC will re-stripe five parking areas for an additional 128 spaces. The second phase involves grading the LADWP open area and re-striping an adjacent lot for an additional 182 spaces, the staff report said. The company will use the Catalina property for parking until phase two is complete, the report said. NBC is seeking approval from LA DWP to grade its open space for the parking, the staff report said.
