Padilla, Feuer Winners in Primary

Los Angeles City Council member Alex Padilla won the Democratic primary Tuesday to represent the San Fernando Valley in the state Senate. With all precincts reporting, Padilla had 55.8 percent of the vote to the 44.2 percent for challenger Assemblywoman Cindy Montanez. Padilla will be on the ballot in November to fill the seat being vacated by 20th District State Sen. Richard Alarcon who termed out. Former L.A. City Councilman Mike Feuer came out ahead in the field of five candidates in the Democratic primary for the 42nd District State Assembly seat that includes parts of Sherman Oaks, North Hollywood, Studio City, and Toluca Lake. Current Assemblyman Paul Koretz is being termed out. With all precincts reporting, Feuer garnered 52.4 percent of the vote, beating out nearest challenger West Hollywood City Councilwoman Abbe Land who had 36.3 percent. The remainder of the vote was split between Eric Michael Fine, Mark Gonzaga and Cynthia Toussaint. In the 43rd District State Assembly Democratic primary, Burbank Unified School District Board member Paul Krekorian beat out Glendale City Councilman Frank Quintero. Krekorian had 56.6 percent of the vote to Quintero’s 43.4 percent with all precincts reporting. The district includes Burbank and Glendale. Thirty-eighth District State Assemblyman Keith Richman fell short in his bid for the Republican nomination for state treasurer, earning over 43.9 percent statewide. In Los Angeles County, Richman received 44.2 percent of the vote. Claude Parrish, a member of the California State Board of Equalization, won that race with 56.1 percent of the statewide vote.
