Bob Hope Airport Generated $22 million for City of Burbank

The Bob Hope Airport contributed $22 million to the coffers of the City of Burbank, an analysis by the city released Friday showed. Of that amount, $10.8 million is paid in property taxes on assets at the airport, according to the 2005 Comprehensive Financial Report. The airport is the largest single contributor to the transient parking tax collected by the city, with a projected $2.8 million forecast for the coming fiscal year. Airport-based parking tax revenue to the city since the tax began in 1997 totals $14.3 million, according to the report. The airport is also a key source of travelers staying in Burbank hotels to the city’s transient occupancy tax paid through hotel bills. The city received $4.8 million in the last fiscal year from the tax although it is not known what percentage of hotel guests are attributable to the airport.
