Valley College Holds Stadium Ceremony

Los Angeles Valley College officially showed off its newly renovated Monarch Stadium at a ceremony Tuesday morning featuring college athletes, community college dignitaries and public officials. The complex features a state-of-the-art athletic field and the only 10-lane “Mondo” track in California. This is the track surface that has been used for seven consecutive Olympics. The new field is made of synthetic turf which LAVC College President Tyree Wieder said will prevent injuries and cut down on maintenance costs. More renovations at the stadium will continue throughout the year, Wieder said, with the installation of visitors bleachers and restrooms and a new concession stand. The $4 million renovation is funded by the $2.2 billion Prop. A/AA bond program approved by voters in 2001 and 2003 for L.A. community college campuses.
