Providence St. Joseph Medical Center debuted the da Vinci S Surgical System on Monday morning: Providence said it was the first hospital west of Texas to use the next generation robotic surgery technology. The technology, which was first introduced in Belgium in 1997, has surgical arms with more extensive movement than previous surgical technology and allows surgeons to conduct less invasive operations. Hospital officials say that using the new robot provides greater outcomes for patients with less pain and scarring along with a faster recovery.
