Glendale Supports FTAC

Below-the-line entertainment workers angling for a federal investigation into foreign subsidies luring away television and film production have added another city into its corner. The Glendale City Council voted March 21 in support of the Film and Television Action Committee filing a petition with the U.S. Trade Representative to investigate whether Canada is violating free trade agreements by offering tax breaks and other incentives to bring American production over the border. “The city council votes help with awareness,” said Tim McHugh, a committee member and owner of a special effects studio in Burbank. “With every vote we get press, people watch on television and we get more hits at the website.” The city governments in Burbank, West Hollywood and Santa Monica have also come out in support of the petition. The Glendale council voted 3-0 in support of the petition, with two abstentions. The committee is looking at filing the petition this summer, McHugh said.
