Zankou Chicken has been named the Small Business of the Year for the 21st Senate District, State Sen. Jack Scott announced Tuesday. Co-owner Rita Iskendarian was given the award during a California Small Business Day event in Sacramento. Zankou Chicken has locations in Van Nuys, Burbank and Glendale. Scott called the success of the restaurant a story of hard work and perseverance. “Rita Iskendarian is an outstanding example of someone who cares deeply about her community white at the same time working hard to establish her business,” Scott said. Zankou Chicken originally was located in Lebanon until members of the Iskendarian family moved to the United States in 1982. A Los Angeles restaurant was opened in 1984.
