WellPoint Inc. reported that its net income rose 26.5 percent to $810.8 million or $1.29 per share for the third quarter ended Sept. 30. Operating revenue at the HMO rose 29 percent to $14.2 billion. The results compare to earnings of $640.7 million or $1.02 per share on operating revenues $11 billion in the prior year quarter. The comparisons do not take into account the acquisition of WellChoice Inc. in Dec. 2005. On a comparable basis, operating revenues increased 12.3 percent to $1.6 billion versus $12.6 percent for the prior year period. WellPoint raised its full year guidance to $4.81 per share.
