Delgadillo: End Business Tax

Los Angeles City Attorney Rocky Delgadillo called for an end to the city’s business tax during an address to the Los Angeles Chamber of Commerce Thursday. He said the business tax has historically dissuaded businesses from investing in the city. “We must remove this obstacle to business and job growth in our city if we have any hope of keeping our businesses from leaving, any hope of bringing back businesses that have left, and any hope of attracting new business,” Delgadillo said. He added that the strength of the business community is directly tied to a reduction of crime in the city. “Investors, small business owners and other entrepreneurs cannot and will not set up shop in the middle of a gang war,” the city attorney said. The comments came at the chamber’s annual Access L.A. City Hall event, which attracted 400 business leaders. Delgadillo served as deputy mayor of economic development in the administration of Mayor Richard Riordan.
