Compromise Reached on Warner Center Apartment Project

The City Council voted to reduce the amount of affordable housing units that must be earmarked in a proposed apartment complex planned for Warner Center. Developer Simms Commercial Development agreed to a compromise in which he will include 42 affordable housing units in a 438-unit apartment building at 6700 Eaton Ave., the site of the Valley Indoor Swap Meet. A city requirement for the area had stipulated that the project would have 25 percent of its units marked as affordable. The city also wanted Simms to pay about $1 million to improve street conditions around the project. Simms argued that the rule was illegal.
