CBS Broadcast Center Dedicated

Employees and executives gathered Friday afternoon for the dedication of the new broadcast center at CBS Studio Center in Studio City. The news operations of KCAL-TV (Channel 9) and KCBS-TV (Channel 2) will broadcast from the facility, one of the most modern studios in the country, with all digital high definition equipment. Later in the year, the West Coast group of the CBS Television Network relocates to the facility from its longtime home at Television City in Hollywood. The last time the company built a new broadcast facility the Dodgers were still in Brooklyn and the Lakers still in Minneapolis, joked CBS Corp. President and CEO Leslie Moonves to the crowd of nearly 300 people. “Walking around and seeing all the smiling faces I can tell the environment agrees with you,” Moonves said. The news stations moved to the 162,000-square foot building from the 1930s-era Columbia Square facility at Sunset Boulevard and Gower Street in Hollywood. The newsroom was named in honor of former KCBS and KCAL anchorman Jerry Dunphy who died in 2002. Those in the audience included Dunphy family members, syndicated talk show host Phil McGraw, “Entertainment Tonight” host Mary Hart and former Dodgers manager Tommy Lasorda.
