City Attorney: Sherman Oaks Stores Victims of Credit Card Scam

A Valley woman has been charged with stealing a Wisconsin woman’s identity to make purchases at the Macy’s store in Sherman Oaks over the holidays. Rebeka Karoglanyan, 29, was charged with four counts of burglary, eight counts of fraudulent use of credit card information, and three counts of identity theft. The case came together after Los Angeles Police Department officials were alerted that unauthorized charges had been made on a Wisconsin woman’s credit card at the Sherman Oaks Fashion Square Macy’s. Security guards later identified Karoglanyan. An investigation found she had used three separate credit card numbers fraudulently embossed onto gift cards to make 11 transactions at local Macy’s and Bloomingdales stores, according to the city attorney’s office. An arrest warrant was issued Feb. 1. Karoglanyan now faces up to eight years in jail or an $8,000 fine if convicted.
