State Speeds Up Insurance Claims for Lost Crops

Insurance Commissioner Steve Poizner has issued an emergency declaration to speed up insurance claims from agricultural businesses that lost crops during the recent cold snap. The Department of Justice has determined that outside adjusters will be in overwhelming demand for claims. Early estimates show that damage to crops may total $700 million. About 90 percent of crops in California are covered by crop insurance. Poizner’s move will call in out-of-state insurance adjusters to assist in claims.
