Supervisors Approve Funding to Accelerate Water Plan

The Los Angeles Board of Supervisors voted unanimously to approve a $450,000 plan to provide funding for the completion of the Antelope Valley Integrated Regional Water Management Plan. The Board of Supervisors also voted to authorize preparation of grant funding applications for all high priority projects. Drafters of the Antelope Valley Water Plan assert that maintaining appropriate water quality and managing other aspects involved with the water cycle has become a challenge, largely due to population increases in the region. The number of residents in the Antelope Valley grew by 330 percent between 1970 and 2005, growing from 103,000 to 440,000. Forecasters predict the region will grow to 1 million by 2035.
