Kohlberg Kravis & Roberts Co. is mulling the purchase of Macy’s Inc. for about $24 billion, according to reports in Women’s Wear Daily. The newspaper said that the private equity firm could reach an agreement with Macy’s in a matter of days. Rumors of a possible buyout of Macy’s have been circulating for several weeks as the company has struggled to integrate its May Co. stores purchase. Last week Macy’s reported same store sales fell 2.7 percent in June, a far larger decline than analysts had expected.
