Valley Hotels Charge More for Rooms: Study

Santa Clarita hoteliers charged 9.3 percent more for a room in January than they did just a year prior, according a study of hotel trends by tracking firm PKF Consulting. An average room cost $125.93 a night during the month, compared to $115.21 in January 2006. The average occupancy rate stood at 66.93 percent a 2.8 percent decrease from the year-ago period. San Fernando Valley hotels performed slightly better and tallied an occupancy rate of 68.34 percent during January, but 4.6 percent than 2006. Valley hotels also increased in cost, charging an average of $123.87 a night, 4.3 percent higher than last year. Both valleys are below countywide averages of $155.93 a night and 72.48 percent occupied. The most expensive rooms in the 16-area study were in Beverly Hills, where the average room cost $423.63.
