This is a regular feature on philanthropic activities by Valley-area businesspeople and companies. BR> Wells Fargo awarded $55,000 to 55 nonprofit organizations in the San Fernando Valley in a Sept. 25 ceremony. The company annually awards $1,000 each to a varying number of community groups as part of the company’s ongoing commitment to serve the community. This year’s ceremony was again held at the Braemar Country Club in Tarzana. Recipient organizations included Armenian Relief Center, Boys & Girls Club of Santa Clarita Valley, Calabasas Raiders, Castaic Lions Club, Circle of Hope and Village Family Services. Panorama City Street Banner Program The Valley Economic Development Center in Van Nuys is administering a street banner program to promote the Panorama City Assistance Program along the Van Nuys Boulevard commercial corridor in Panorama City. The banners, produced by the Panorama City Business Assistance Program, were created and funded by the Community Redevelopment Agency of Los Angeles. Forty-seven banners were installed along Panorama City’s main corridor which encompasses Van Nuys and Roscoe boulevards and Chase Street. An additional 12 banners were slated to be installed along Van Nuys Boulevard during the first week of October. The 59 banners will be displayed through August 2008. The goal of the Panorama City Assistance Program is to attract and expand businesses in the area. Its services include site selection, retail leasing assistance, loan packaging and placement, business consulting and training, market assessment and business permit assistance. In its first 10 months of operation, the program has helped four startups to open and assisted five more to access more than $52,000 through VEDC’s loan programs. “All the critical elements are in place for Panorama City to experience its second boom, said Robert Barragan, VEDC president. “A vital component of the Panorama City Business Assistance Program is the revitalization of retail and office space. We are providing no-charge consulting services and workshops to existing retailers and to those who would like to open locations in the area. Further, we have available a range of debt financing products, which will be critical to stimulating new and expanded retail development in the central San Fernando Valley.” The primary service area for the program is the 405 Freeway to the west, Woodman Avenue to the east, Lassen Street to the north and Sherman Way to the south.
