Health Net Inc. was ranked as among having the best clinical care in an annual government report. The Health Care Quality Report Card from the State of California’s Office of the Patient Advocate ranks HMOs and medical groups that serve nearly 50 percent of Californians. Out of a four-star scale Woodland Hills-based Health Net scored three stars, or a good rating, for its HMO care. The report card concluded that Health Net scored in the good category in checking for cancer, diabetes care, heart care, and maternity care; and in the fair category for asthma care. In the medical group category, Premier Physician Network in Encino received a rating of not meeting national care standards. Bella Vista Medical Group, the Health Industry Network and Health Care LA all in Woodland Hills, and Family Health Alliance in Encino were not rated because of incomplete date. Serra Community Medical Clinic in Sun Valley was not willing to report any data. Overall, the report card found that one in every three HMO member rates his or her plan unfavorably. Moreover, one-third of patients give low marks to experiences, such as scheduling appointments and the coordination of care. “This Report Card is one tool that can help consumers make decisions on which HMOs and medical groups provide the best overall health care for themselves and their families,” said OPA Director Sandra Perez.
