Coming Soon to Russian TV Tols-Toy Story?

The Walt Disney Co. will begin broadcasting in Russia in 2009 with its own branded channel in partnership with Media-One Holdings Ltd. The Burbank-based media conglomerate will have a 49 percent stake in the joint venture and provide cash and programming for children and families. Disney and Media-One will also produce original programming for the channel. The joint venture combines Disney’s media experience with Media-One’s knowledge of the Russian television market. “We set ourselves the goal not only to become a popular kids and family focused free-to-air television channel in the country, but also to produce attractive financial results in a relatively short time frame,” said Media-One CEO Ivan Tavrin. The predominately free-to-air network begins airing in 2009, pending regulatory approval from Russian government authorities.
