Deductable Mileage-Rate Changes for 2009

The amount reimbursed to workers for business-related driving will drop in the new year, the Internal Revenue Service announced. The new standard mileage rate will be 55 cents-per-mile for business miles driven, a decrease of 3.5 cents from the 58.5 cents per mile put in place during the second half of 2008 when gas prices skyrocketed to more than $4 a gallon in much of the country. The mileage amount for medical and moving purposes drops to 24 cents from 27 cents-per-mile for the second half of 2008. Driving for charitable purposes is a statutorily fixed rate, which remains at 14 cents per mile.
