Star Cuts 7 Workers

The Ventura County Star cut seven positions as a response to shrinking ad revenue and a sluggish economy. The positions cut were in operations and production, circulation and accounting, the Star reported. “This is a painstakingly detailed, heartstring-pulling process. We do not take it lightly,” Publisher George H. Cogswell III was quoted in the Star. “It is a course of action we would never hope to go down. Laying folks off … is a very difficult business decision.” The seven workers will receive a severance package that provides compensation based on length of employment and medical benefits for three months. The average time the employees worked for the company was less than five years, the paper reported.
