Disney Debuts Internet-Only Studio

The Walt Disney Co. unveiled a new studio to produce shows for distribution through the Internet. The first show from Stage 9 Digital Media is “Squeegees,” a comedy about window-washers, the Los Angeles Times reported. Stage 9 is currently developing a total of 20 short-form programs, the Times said. “We’ve all seen the appeal of short-form content grow over the past few years,” Anne Sweeney, president of the Disney-ABC Television Group, was quoted in the Times. “The launch of this experimental new media studio allows us to play in this space with some quality content, while giving us an interesting venue for telling stories in a different form.” CBS and Warner Bros. also have separate digital studios, the Times said.
