General Electric remains “incredibly supportive” of its NBC Universal unit and has no intentions of selling the media division, its chief executive said. NBC honcho Jeff Zucker, appearing at the annual Allen & Co. media conference in Idaho, said that GE executives made it clear that NBC Universal remains an important part of the company’s portfolio, the Associated Press reported. GE did announce it was spinning off some of its underperforming business unites, including the lighting and appliance businesses, the AP reported. The same future is not in the cards for NBC Universal, which has offices and studios in Burbank and Universal City. “In the last 12 months, GE has been incredibly supportive,” Zucker said, even as the unit’s NBC broadcast network continues to languish in the prime-time ratings race and other businesses struggle to stanch the loss of advertising revenue to the Web, the AP reported.
