L.A. council member, MTA ready to mix it up

A battle is brewing between one Los Angeles City Council member and the MTA over plans to turn a parking lot at a Van Nuys Orange Line station into a mixed-use development. The MTA board is expected to approve the proposal from JPI West at its Thursday meeting. The firm was selected over six other bidders with its plan for a five-story, 560-unit residential building that would also have 30,000 square feet of commercial development.
