Board set to vote on increasing LAX landing fees

The Board of Airport Commissioners is scheduled to vote today on increasing landing fees at Los Angeles International Airport, which confronts the prospect of declining revenues because airlines are eliminating flights. If approved, the rate would go from $3.35 per every 1,000 landed pounds to $3.85 per every 1,000 landed pounds. The 50-cent fee hike would translate into big money. Under the proposal, it would cost $2,194 to land a Boeing 747-400 jetliner at LAX, up from the current rate of $1,909. It costs the same aircraft $1,710 to land in San Francisco, $1,494 to land in Seattle and $1,992 to land at Chicago’s O’Hare International Airport.
