Blumenfield, Knight Winners In Assembly Primaries

Bob Blumenfield won the four-way race in the Democratic primary for the 40th Assembly District seat representing the San Fernando Valley. In the Antelope Valley, Palmdale City Councilman Steve Knight bested two challengers in the Republican primary for the 36th Assembly District seat. With all 273 precincts reporting, Knight, son of the late state politician Pete Knight, had had 53 percent of the vote. Palmdale Mayor Jim Ledford ended up with 34 percent and Steve Fox with 13 percent. Knight faces Democrat Linda Jones in the general election to fill the seat formerly held by Assemblywoman Sharon Runner. In the 40th District race, Blumenfield, the district director for Congressman Howard Berman, had 53 percent of the vote with all 170 precincts reporting. Stuart Waldman, former chief of staff for termed out Assemblyman Lloyd Levine, and Laurette Healey each ended up with 21 percent of the vote. Writer Dan McCrory had a mere 5 percent of the vote. Blumenfield faces Republican candidate Armineh Chelebian in the November election. The 40th District seat is being vacated by Levine who will run for a state senate seat.
