VICA Supporting Transit Improvements

The Valley Industry & Commerce Association weighed in with support of an extension of the Red Line subway, the Orange Line busway and an increase in the sales tax to support transportation projects. The Metro board met June 26 to consider dozens of transit improvements for Los Angeles County. The agency’s draft plans, however, only provide 6 percent of its long range funding to the San Fernando Valley. Among the numbers up for discussion by the Metro board is placing a half-percent sales tax on the November ballot to generate about $40 billion over 30 years. “VICA is interested in supporting the sales tax measure, but only if the Valley gets a reasonable share of the funding,” said its Chairman Greg Lippe. The organization also backs extending the Red Line subway from North Hollywood to the Bob Hope Airport; and providing Orange Line bus service north on Canoga Avenue to the Chatsworth Metrolink station.
