LANCASTER – Despite Palmdale officials’ opposition, Antelope Valley College trustees voted 3-1 to authorize more than $16.9 million in contracts for a new theater arts building project on the college’s Lancaster campus. Palmdale Mayor Jim Ledford, speaking at Monday night’s college board meeting, asked trustees to divert the funds toward construction of a permanent Palmdale campus, which college officials said they cannot do because the theater project has been approved by the state Community College Chancellor’s Office.
