Net Loss in Q1 for Trio-Tech

Pricing and volume pressures in Southeast Asia made for a tough first quarter for semiconductor testing firm Trio-Tech International. The Van Nuys-based company reported a net loss of $719,000, or $0.22 per diluted share, on revenues of $6.2 million for the quarter ending Sept. 30. For the same period a year ago, the company had net income of $751,000, or $0.23 per diluted share, on revenues of $12 million. Trio-Tech is responding to conditions in the semiconductor industry and pricing and volume pressures through reductions in employees and costs, said CEO S. W. Yong. “We believe our business development efforts are meeting with some success, as we have recently received some encouragement in manufacturing small components for a new customer in the aerospace industry,” Yong said.
