SAG, Studios Back to Talking

Talks were expected to resume Nov. 21 between the Screen Actors Guild and the major Hollywood studios over a new contract. The two sides met on Nov. 20 with a federal mediator in what Variety described as “a marathon session” that didn’t yield much progress. The actors’ union has been without a contract since June. Both the union and the Sherman Oaks-based Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers have not budged on their demands that would lead to a new deal. The stalemate has led to slow down in production, particularly for feature films. The union and the studios are at odds primarily over payments to actors when their work is distributed through downloads, online streaming and to mobile devices.
