Workplace Safety Complaints Target Adult Industry

Adult entertainment production companies in the San Fernando Valley have been targeted in complaints filed with the California’s Department of Industrial Relations by an AIDS prevention group advocating the use of condoms in adult films. The AIDS Healthcare Foundation is pressing the state’s occupational safety and health division to enforce the use of condoms on film shoots. The foundation sees its duty to pursue action on the issue of safety in the workplace, said President Michael Weinstein. Supporting the foundation’s complaints were videos from 16 production companies showing performers with and without condoms. Among the companies are Vivid Entertainment, Sin City, Blue Pictures and Anarchy Films, all located in the Valley. A press conference Aug. 20 featured former adult performers who encouraged the use of condoms during filming. The use of condoms in adult productions has long been a contentious issue in the industry and was raised again following a female adult performer testing positive for HIV in June. Mark R. Madler
