Council District 2 Special Election

In a special election Sept. 22, San Fernando Valley Voters will choose from 10 candidates running for the Los Angeles City Council District 2 seat left vacant by Wendy Greuel, who was elected as City Controller in March. Two aspirants are expected to face each other in a December runoff as the likelihood of one candidate walking away with 50 percent of the vote is slim. Vying for the seat are two candidates who currently hold public office: LAUSD Board member Tamar Galatzan and Assemblymember Paul Krekorian. Former Senior Vice President of Paramount Pictures Christine Essel, is also in the running along with local candy factory owner Frank Sheftel, community activist Pete Sanchez, small business owner Mary Benson, real estate broker Jozef Essavi, neighborhood council member Michael McCue, specialty equipment business owner Augusto Bisani, and City Hall activist David ” Zuma Dogg” Zaltsburg. Polls open from 7:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. For more information contact the Office of the City Clerk Election Division at (213) 978-0444 or toll-free at (888) 873-1000, or visit the Election Division website at: http://cityclerk.lacity.org/election/.
