Security Breach at ReachLocal

Woodland Hills-based ReachLocal’s Australian platform experienced a security breach during the month of April, according to a company filing with federal regulators. As part of the process to become a public company, ReachLocal notified the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission of risk factors that could affect financial performance. David Glaubke, ReachLocal’s director of corporate communications, said the company is not commenting on the security breach beyond what was stated in the filing. The breach resulted in disruption of advertising campaigns and required bringing the Australian platform offline for 36 hours, according to the filing. This resulted in limitations on customer reporting and delayed implementation of a few new campaigns. The disruption did not result in any compromise of customer credit card or internal human resources information. But ReachLocal said it cannot assure future breaches will not occur nor that any such breaches will not compromise commercially sensitive data. Future breaches could negatively impact the company’s reputation and result in liability and loss of sales and clients, said the SEC filing.
