Trauma Center Opens at Hospital

Antelope Valley Hospital officially opened as a Level II Trauma Center on May 3. Seven board-certified surgeons are on staff and dedicated to caring for trauma patients. The trauma center is open 24 hours a day seven days a week in the Emergency Department, and there is always a board-certified surgeon present in the hospital. In addition to the surgeons, 80 nurses have completed the Trauma Nurse Core Course. As the only trauma center in the Antelope Valley, the hospital now offers the same services and specialties that residents traveled out of town for in the past. Trauma Center distinction is the foundation to building Centers of Excellence in Oncology, Orthopedics, Cardiology, Pediatrics, Trauma and Neurology with Stroke Certification. The trauma center designation is the latest improvements taking place at the hospital in the past couple of years. The hospital has added staff, upgraded procedures, rejuvenated its facilities, and reduced its debt through a reorganization and restructuring that touched nearly every process at the organization. To meet demand for increased medical care, the hospital expanded its number of beds, and upgraded patient rooms and restructured the nursing department.
