THE LIST – NOT FOR PROFIT ORGANIZATIONS

NOT FOR PROFIT ORGANIZATIONS – CLICK HERE EXECUTIVE SUMMARY This is the second consecutive year the Business Journal has run the Not for Profit Organizations list, and due to the popularity of last year’s list, the Philanthropy Guide, and the Not for Profit LeadershipAwards we received the most survey responses we ever had for the list. As such, this is the most comprehensive guide of financial information for not for profits that the Business Journal has ever assembled. The Philanthropy Guide is intended to be a directory of all the not for profits in the San Fernando Valley area, while the List is a financial snapshot of the non-profit sector for 2009. Due to this year’s overwhelming response, we only included organizations with over $1,000,000 in assets so several companies were not included despite completing surveys. THE PACESETTER For the second year in a row, the Motion Picture and Television Fund (MPTF) tops our list with just over $229 million in total assets in 2009. The MPTF was founded over 89 years ago, and began as a “simple coin box in Hollywood where industry workers would deposit spare change for their fellow colleagues”. In 1921 theMPTV was instituted with Joseph M. Schenck as their first President. The Fund itself is designed specifically to aid, support, and provide human services to those in need in the entertainment industry, led by entertainment industry professionals. Programs include child, elder and geriatric services for the community, as well as health and senior living services. – By Brian DeWolf
