EXECUTIVE SUMMARY / THE PACESETTER – Valley’s Largest Fixed Base Operators

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY This year’s aviation Lists have been split into three different categories to cover the variety of businesses in the region. There are separate Lists for the Valley’s largest fixed based operators (FBOs), air-travel companies and miscellaneous service providers that deal directly with the aviation trade. Each List is ranked differently depending on what information each company was willing to disclose. There are five cities with airports in the greater San Fernando Valley area: Burbank, Van Nuys, Camarillo, Lancaster and Palmdale. This congestion is unique to the area and as a result thirty total aviation related companies appear across all three Lists. The oldest local company continues to be The Flamemaster Corporation in Pacoima, which has been supplying specialty chemicals to the aerospace, defense, energy and transportation industries since 1942. – By Josh Dausch THE PACESETTER The top ranked companies in each of the three aviation Lists in this section demonstrate the multi-faceted nature of local aviation companies. In terms of air-travel, TWC Aviation Inc. in Van Nuys repeats its no. 1 ranking from last year with 186,234 total passengers in 2009. This is the third year in a row TWC has reported the most passengers. For aviation services, Helinet Aviation Services LLC took the top spot with the most local employees at 50. Helinet offers everything from helicopter charters to organ transport for patients in need of a transplant. Finally, the Valley’s largest fixed based operator is Avantair Elite Services with 488 employees in 2009. Avantair is the only publicly traded stand alone fractional operator and has been in business since 2003. – By Josh Dausch Download the 2010 SF VALLEY’S LARGEST FIXED BASE OPERATORS COs list (pdf)
