Real Estate Company Helping House the Homeless

This is a regular feature on philanthropic activities by Valley-area businesspeople and companies. Associates from CB Richard Ellis’ Ventura County office helped build housing for the underprivileged and homeless as part of its “Get Out and Give Back” BuildMonth in September. During September, CB Richard Ellis professionals from all over the country partnered with HomeAid and Rebuilding Together to assist with building and housing projects. The two organizations are the company’s selected Shelter Program charitable partners. On Sept. 21, the CB Richard Ellis associates joined the Los Angeles/Ventura HomeAid chapter to help with the program of the RAIN Transitional Living Center. The project included exterior painting of two buildings, landscape planting and handling donated clothes and furniture. “This new program aims to build on company and individual contributions to our communities by more closely aligning our business with giving endeavors,” said Sheila O’Carroll, operations manager of the company’s Camarillo Office. “By partnering with HomeAid we are providing real estate solutions to assist those in need of a helping hand.” CB Richard Eillis’ Shelter program is part of the company’s corporate philanthropy program CBRE Cares. Firm Fundraises for Breast Cancer Jewelry design company Linx & More is donating funds to the Susan G. Komen Foundation to help fight breast cancer. The Woodland Hills company and its hundreds of vendors across the country plan to donate 30 percent of sales from its “Hope” necklaces, bracelets and key chain lockets to the organization as part of Breast Cancer Awareness Month. “We are proud to support the Susan G. Komen Foundation’s amazing work benefiting breast cancer survivors, patients, families, doctors and researchers,” said Gina Catan Eckstein, the company’s CEO. Car Show Benefits Children Thousand Oaks-based Boykin Automotive raised funds for St. Jude the Apostle School and My Stuff Bags Foundation through its 1st Annual Westlake Village Charity Car Show on Oct. 3. My Stuff Bags Foundation is a Westlake Village-based organization that provides services for abused, abandoned and neglected children. St. Jude the Apostle School is also located in Westlake Village. The event, which was free to the public, featured music by local bands that played for charity, food and items provided by local restaurants and vendors, raffles throughout the day and a drawing for a 1997 Harley Fat Boy motorcycle. Vendors and those showing cars were charged for participating in the event. The show was held at the Bank of America Building in Westlake Village. Donation for Pediatric ICU The Phyllis and Angelo R. Mozilo Family Foundation donated $2 million to help expand Providence Tarzana Medical Center’s Pediatric Intensive Care Unit. “This is a very generous gift to the children in our care,” said Cesar Chavarria, M.D., medical director of pediatrics at Providence Tarzana Medical Center. “We are bringing in state-of-the-art equipment and creating all private rooms for families to stay when their children are sick.” The Mozilo Family Foundation donation expands the family’s contributions to Providence. The foundation also is among the donors who built the new Roy and Patricia Disney Family Cancer Center at Providence Saint Joseph Medical Center in Burbank. The Mozilo family has donated to numerous area education and healthcare organizations.
