Pentadyne Assets Go to Michigan Company

A Michigan manufacturing company has purchased the power equipment assets of shuttered Valley firm Pentadyne Energy Corp. Phillips Service Industries will rebrand the flywheel equipment previously manufactured by Pentadyne at its Chatsworth facility. Pentadyne’s flywheel technology was used on electric trains and to keep devices such as servers, and communications and medical equipment running in the event of an outage. “PSI is in the process of setting up production for the flywheel manufacturing business in our Livonia, Michigan facility,” said Vice President of Marketing Bob Phillips. “We are fully committed to improving the quality behind this proven technology.” Pentadyne closed its doors earlier this summer after piling up substantial debt, primarily to two venture capital firms that had provided funding. Rather than file for Chapter 7 bankruptcy, the company instead filed for a general assignment with a Beverly Hills firm. Proceeds from the sale of the uninterrupted power supply division purchased by Phillips and the pending sale of the rail division will go to Pentadyne’s creditors. Mark R. Madler
