EXECUTIVE SUMMARY / THE PACESETTER – Shopping Centers

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY This is the first year the Business Journal has compiled the List of the Valley’s Largest Shopping Centers. These facilities are malls or outlets, both indoor and outdoor that offer retail, restaurants and other forms of entertainment. The shopping centers were ranked by taxable sales for 2010, with each one’s square footage, number of tenants and stores presented where available. The largest shopping center is the Northridge Fashion Center with $1.4 billion in taxable sales. The No. 2 ranked shopping center is Westfield Topanga in Woodland Hills, which is physically larger than Northridge Fashion Center by 190,000 square feet. The oldest shopping center here is Janss Marketplace in Thousand Oaks, opened in 1960. – By Josh Dausch THE PACESETTER The No. 1 ranked shopping center in the greater San Fernando Valley area is Northridge Fashion Center with the most in taxable sales and second largest in square footage. Opened in 1971, it was damaged by the 1994 Northridge earthquake and renovated in 1995 and again in 1998.
